Losing weight may seem really hard when there’s so much variety of food to eat. What you eat plays a great role in your weight loss. You may be able to resist cakes and ice creams but what are the other foods that you must sacrifice to shed those extra kilos?

1) Refined grains

Refined grains include white bread, pasta, white rice. For most of us white rice and bread is a staple diet. But these refined grains are processed in such a way that all the fibre and important nutrients are removed. It is better to replace refined grains with whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat.

2)Fruit juices

Packaged fruit juice may seem like a healthy and convenient option for breakfast. However it is just a glass of empty calories. Even when it says 100% natural it is still not advised to drink these fruit juices as they are packed with a lot of sugar. It is better you eat a whole fruit instead which will give you fibre as well as a lot of other nutrients.

3)Processed foods

Processed foods include processed meats, canned food, packaged snacks etc.

These foods contain a lot of preservatives, colour, salt and sugar, emulsifier and artificial flavors. They are also very appealing and you tend to crave more and more.

Processed meats like salami, hot dogs, burgers and bacon can increase the risk of getting cardiovascular diseases. They are high in fat and calories. Avoid eating processed meats and replace them with lean meat or fish.

4)Alcohol

Drinking a glass or two of alcohol once in a while doesn’t really affect your body weight. However, heavy drinking or binge drinking can affect your weight gain alarmingly and can lead to obesity.  A glass of alcohol consists 7 calories per gram similar to that of carbs and proteins but these are empty calories and have zero nutritional value.

5)Soda

Soda’s are never on the good food list. They are very closely linked to obesity and other health problems. Soda’s are very high in empty calories and sugar. Diet soda might seem healthier but it is as bad as a regular soda. It still has zero nutritional value and the sugar is substituted with artificial sweeteners that can lead to weight gain as well.

6) Sugar free products

Many of us tend to substitute sugar with sugar free products thinking that they may be better for our health but that is just a misconception. These products may be low in calories but they spike your insulin levels as they contain unhealthy artificial sweeteners.
